Getting Lost

Before I left Hong Kong, I went around to some of my favourite spots with a new friend and his film cameras. Not really places to shop or eat or do anything constructive; we decided it would be nice to just explore as if getting lost despite how familiar those areas are to me now; sometimes taking photos helps you see things as if for the first time.

As the days count down to my first exam and the quotidian pressures of academics become the prime focus of my daily routine I've realised that I no longer place a lot of focus (on this blog and otherwise) on what i wear. To be honest I've probably worn a variation of the outfit below more than 10 times in the past month; I no longer utilise blogging as a reason to dress up but rather a channel to post photos where i happen to be wearing things that I like and would wear anyway. The dress-up aspect of blogging has lost its appeal to me and I find this refreshing. I read your messages on my tumblr and in my inbox and I know that some of you miss my old posts where i used to construct more elaborate ensembles and shoots; I appreciate that you liked those and I don't regret shooting them but I feel like the direction I'm heading in is one where my style, as well as my blogging style, are becoming more relaxed. I still enjoy showing you guys my outfits but I've come to appreciate that blogging for me is not just a personalised online shopping catalogue. My ramblings aren't revolutionary in the sense that this trend of deviation from personal style posts is probably quite apparent; but i felt like writing something to you guys to say that I really enjoyed blogging like that in the past but am excited to continue on this site with a more relaxed style.

I'm also quite excited about this post because I get to showcase some film photography that isn't my own. Hope you enjoy the photos and if you like them you can check out more of Hoi Cheung's photos here. I'm going to continue studying for my exams now but hope you like the photos :) Sorry for the wordy post; much love to you all, as always.

  3. That's really funny that you say you are going more toward casual photography on your blog because I feel like I'm going the opposite direction! I think the art of an editorial is much more fun than a standard #ootd shoot for me, as that way I can collaborate with a local brand (and as an ethical fashion blogger, that's really important to me to promote local rather than chain companies!). But I think that you & your friends are so good at casual photography (like this post) that it is still just so much fun to go through all of your photos, so I'm not complaining. Your aesthetic still comes through and it totally on-point ;)

P.S. I love that photo of you in the train(?) with the old man sleeping across from you. Too cute :)

    1. Thanks so much for your comment! I still enjoy doing editorials but I think that's just not going to be the central focus of my blog anymore- might still do some in the future if i'm inspired to :) Have a lovely day x

    2. Yes I would definitely say that your personality (well, from what I have gotten from your blog) matches this more casual blogging, so it totally fits! In any regard, regardless of how you decide to move your blog forward I'm excited to follow along and see what you have created! xx

  4. An impressive philosophy to adopt. It appears that as life progresses, we either evolve with it or relax from it.

  5. Zoe, this post couldn't have come at a better time. I am currently plagued by final exams and throughout the past years at university I have learned that, particularly when I'm bogged down by my academics, my stress is eased most when I simplify other aspects of my life (like my wardrobe and living space, for example). I have grown to appreciate and crave simplicity in my life and I can relate ~so well~ to your words. Your style is still on point and you're a cool gal–keep doing what makes you happiest! :)

  8. Regardless of what your other longtime readers might think...I absolutely love your new style. Not to say the Fashiononymous era didn't have its time and place, it did, but it's clear to see that you're growing and changing as a person - hence the (fairly) new blog.

I think it's great that you're taking a more relaxed approach to blogging as I know all too well from past experience that putting too much pressure on yourself to please people who've come to love what you've built already...it's counterintuitive. You end up heading down a road that's just not right for you anymore and the longer you hesitate, the more difficult it is to change direction. I for one can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve - the photos, the words, the whole aesthetic of your blog has always kept me interested in your life and your personal style.

  10. Your new way of blogging is why I love your blog so much. Surely, photoshoots and outfit posts are nice, but after a while I tend to get tired of them, because there's no "real" content there. I'd rather read and see someone's life, views, thoughts than look at some pretty clothes (I can look at those on Pinterest). I love your photography and the way you treat this blog more like a diary than a fashion outlet :)

    Keep it going! :) xx

  11. Hey Zoe (๑・‿・๑) first of all i wanna say that i love this article, and all the previous pictures, articles, and all that were posted on your blog ◔౪◔ i think it's normal that we evolue, and what we like doing change so we adapt ourselves (๑・‿・๑) i will keep supporting you, since i like how you show that part of your daily life (๑・‿・๑) and btw i think that your look is minimalist and quite simple, but i find it very personnal and i prefer when people do not complicate things : you have your signature style and i agree that if you dont want to show your fashion, you dont (๑・‿・๑)

  12. Hi Zoe, it's my first time here (and definitely not the last) but I already love it and can completely relate to how you're feeling about blogging recently. I've gone through this tranisition where I was almost completely fed up with outfit posts and decided to stick only to photography, writing and treating my blog as an visual diary. But then, couple of months ago I realised I kinda missed also the outfit shots because I've never dressed up for blog and decided to bring it back and incorporate it into everything else. And so now I'm happy with everything :))

Love your photos and simplicity of your style, it's great! :)

  26. I'm quite new here but I feel lucky to be a new reader. Because the more I load your old blog posts the more I fall in love with this blog. Seeing too many fashion blogs could make me sick sometime. Say, I just get bored to see many similiar contents in my dashboard feed. It's not that your "Fashiononymous" was bad or boring, because I do really enjoy read your old blogposts. However your new blogging style definitely wins my heart! This is what I call "blog to express not impress". Happy weekend Zoe, good luck for your exam! ♥♥♥♥♥
